Sustainable Thinking - Part 2

Welcome to sustainable thinking part 2, we hope you enjoyed part 1 and took some steps towards sustaining your life

If you have not read part 1 yet, jump on over and take a look.

Sustainable Thinking - Part 1

The next step in sustainable thinking is taking a closer look at how thoughts and choices impact the greater environment.

You might be surprised to find out that if we simply stop and think before we act, we can have a positive affect on our immediate and greater environment.

You may want to grab some paper to note down thoughts or actions you plan to take or print this post and pin it up in your home. This post will not be as long as part 1 so it should not take up much of your time.

Remember that in caring for the greater environment you also care for yourself!

How does that work?

By treating ourselves well such as using less chemicals, eating healthy, being resourceful and being wise with your purchases it helps to reduce waste and contamination. So by taking care of yourself you take care of nature.

Here is a picture that describes the sustainable circle of life

Okay, now we will move on to

Making Sustainable Choices

We make decisions everyday that collectively have a large impact on the greater environment so sustainable choice is a necessary step towards a healthy future.

Making a sustainable choice empowers you to get the most out of your purchasing decision and has a positive effect on the environment.

We aim to make sustainable choices easier!

Some don't know where to start or think it's too hard to make such decisions so we have put together this simple guide. With practice, making a sustainable choice becomes second nature.

Purchasing

When you are out to purchase goods next time, stop to think about the following before you buy

Food, Body & Cleaning Products

  • Where has it come from? is it local, fair trade, organic, sustainably sourced
  • Is there unnecessary packaging? can the packaging be recycled
  • Is it healthy? does it contain chemicals or artificial ingredients
  • What is in it? do I know what the ingredients are
  • Can I grow it myself or make my own?

Electrical Goods & Furniture

  • Will it last? what is the life expectancy of the product
  • Where has it come from? is it local, fair trade, organic, sustainably sourced
  • Is there unnecessary packaging? can the packaging be recycled
  • Do I really need it? If it ain't broken don't try to fix it
  • Can I afford it?
  • Will it be cost effective to get it repaired
  • Will it be cost effective to redecorate rather that upgrade?
  • Where can I recycle my unwanted goods?

Building & Construction

  • Will it last? what is the life expectancy of the product
  • Where has it come from? is it local, fair trade, organic, sustainably sourced
  • Choose sustainable materials
  • Choose chemical free, plant base sealants and paints
  • When buying products only buy enough for the job so you don't have to store it away
  • Give extra materials to family and friends
  • Dispose of waste and chemicals appropriately

    Short Story - Cows Milk

A couple of years ago we went to visit a family relative that worked on a milking farm (I will not name the milk company) We were there for a couple of days and boy did I drink a lot of fresh cows milk.

On our last day I found out how they got a constant supply of milk, this is where I started to feel sick.

In order for the company to keep up with their quoter they impregnate the cows so they produce milk. Then before a certain time in the pregnancy they give the cows an abortion. If the cow was to carry to full term this is what happens to the the calf

What you never knew about dairy video

There is no need to be alarmed, we have found some milk alternatives here

Okay so that wraps it up. We hope you start to make some sustainable choices, we would love to hear from you so leave a comment below!
